2.1 The Stage-1, Phase-I of the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project to transmit 45 Mgd of treated water estimated to cost Rs.875 Crores (Rs.1000 Crores including interest during construction) has been taken up and about 60% of the Project is completed and it is programmed to complete the Project by 31st Mar'2004. The raw water required for the Stage-1 of the Phase-I Project is proposed to be tapped from the AMRP Main Canal at Km 26.328 as a time being arrangement.
2.2 The Stage-2 of Phase-I Project is to add another 45Mgd of treated water and is programmed to be taken up and completed by end of year 2005. In Stage-2, an independent intake tower would be constructed in the foreshore of Nagarjuansagar at Shunkishala and raw water would be pumped to the WTP at Kodandapur. This would be a permanent arrangement for drawing required raw water of 5.5 TMC from Nagarjunasagar, River Krishna, to the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project.

Advancing certain components of the Stage-2 of Phase-I into the Stage-1 of Phase-I Project:
The total actual cost of the Stage-1, Phase-I Project has come down due to less tenders received and also due to saving in the cost of extension of the power supply lines etc. Hence it is proposed to advance the components pertaining to (i) Additional Storage Reservoirs at 3 places along with the (ii) Additional Pumping Equipment at the three pump houses and another (iii) 45 Mgd of water treatment plant at Kodandapur all together costing about Rs.62 Crores, and take up and complete the same in Stage-1, Phase-I of the Project itself so that 90 Mgd of additional water could be made available in the water supply system and to make the project more viable. The total cost of the Stage-1 including these components proposed to be advance from Stage-2 is estimated to cost only Rs.820 Crores as follows.
