THE MD, HMWSSB ISPECTED OLD RAMANTHAPUR ON 16.08.2024

Sri. K. Ashok Reddy, IAS Managing Director directed the officials to immediately start the restoration work of the sewer main pipe line located in Old Ramantapur in the city. On Friday he inspected the sewer main pipe line along with the senior officials.

A 1000 mm dia pipe line with a length of 6720 meters was built in the past with the funds of the National River Conversion Directorate to divert the sewage generated in the vicinity of Old Ramanthapur to Nallacheruvu STP and treat it. Later, the construction of 600 mm dia and 450 mm dia pipe lines was undertaken to cover Ramantapur, Srinivasa Nagar and Ramantapur pond areas within Uppal Municipality. With this, the length of the main pipe line has reached 7940 meters. The management of this pipe line will be undertaken by Uppal Municipal authorities. Later it came under the purview of GHMC. The water board took over the management of the sewer main in 2021 when the responsibilities of city suburban sewerage were handed over to water board.

However.. in the course of laying a new road from Nagole Metro Station to Amberpet.. some man holes along with the pipe line have been repaired. Especially in Saibaba Nagar Colony, Devender Nagar Colony and Lakshmi Nagar Colony, a large percentage was destroyed and there was a chokehold there. Due to this, sewage problems started for the people of the above mentioned areas. Recently this matter came to the attention of the MD visited the pipe line today and ordered the concerned officials to take up the restoration. Even though GHMC has already made a lot of efforts to clear the choke, even though temporary repairs have been undertaken in those areas, the residents have not been able to get a full solution.

The MD Ashok Reddy also instructed the officials to start the restoration work of the water body immediately and complete it as soon as possible. For this, there is a possibility that it will take more time if the siltation works are carried out by the bucket cleaning method. That is why it was decided to take up the work through Super Sucker and Big Air Tech Missions. Sri. Swamy, Director (Operations-2), Smt.Sujatha, CGM, Sri. Santosh, GM and concerned officials participated in this program.
